Training: every course, what it raises, and licenses

Updated · Horses

Quick answer

Each horse has strength and endurance (each capped by an inherited potential), confidence, and a daily exercise budget — push past it and the horse gets exhausted or injured. Courses in the riding arena raise strength and endurance and cost exercise; you can run several a day until the budget runs out, and courses cost no money. Three courses double as licences: pass Caprilli 1, Show Jumping 1 and Cross Country 1 in the arena before you can enter that discipline in town. Confidence is raised by the desensitization course (approach a scary object, praise curiosity, back off when worried) and by praising right after a requested gait change; a horse that only competes or gives lessons slowly loses stats.

Stat drain

Lessons and competitions use the horse without training it. Players report strength and endurance slipping on horses that only do those — especially pregnant or nursing mares — so keep a training day in the rotation.

FAQ

Why can't my horse reach 100 strength?

Potential. Strength and endurance are capped by values the horse was born with; breed from parents with high potential to raise the ceiling (see breeding).

My horse keeps changing gait on its own

Low confidence. A warning icon now appears before the change so you can correct it; run the desensitization course and praise after requested transitions.

How much can I train per day?

Until the horse's exercise budget is used up; each course costs a set amount (roughly 5–30, community figures). Overdo it and you get exhaustion or injuries, including tendon injuries from overworked trainers.

Do treats raise confidence?

Players report a small gain, more for horses with the 'Snacky' personality trait.
