Caprilli tests: what they are and how to time the gait changes
Updated · Management
Quick answer
A Caprilli test combines precise gait transitions with low jumping obstacles — the developers added it in May because a fully trained starter horse can no longer win the first show-jumping class. It has two levels (Beginner, Novice) and needs the Caprilli 1 licence from your arena. The timing players settled on: press the gait change as your rider's foot crosses the middle of the two gait indicator lines; early or late transitions cost points, as do jump faults.
The timing rule, in one line
Two lines mark where a gait should change. Press when the rider’s foot is between them — right on the middle. The warning icon for unprompted gait changes (added in August) is a different thing: that’s your horse losing confidence, and you correct it.
FAQ
What's a Caprilli test in real life?
A low-level test (named after Federico Caprilli) mixing flatwork transitions with small jumps — the game borrows the idea for its beginner class.
Which comes first, Caprilli or show jumping?
Caprilli. Win it to unlock the next classes and to build prestige; show jumping Beginner needs more strength than a starter has.
